新晃当地流行乱葬习俗，很多地方都是乱葬岗。包括很多学校都是建在坟地旁边或者直接推了坟地建学校。包括新晃城区也有很多坟地和乱葬岗，新晃一些乡村道路路边也有坟墓。新晃一中，本来没有操场，是 2000 年后扩建，把学校后山的坟地推平建的操场。所以有一些尸骨没清理干净，遗留在了操场下面。造成了误会和麻烦！
